REASONS TO REDUCE OUR PLASTIC CONSUMPTION
We know that plastic is one of the most polluting on our planet and that it is usually a daily product of human use, but we can reduce its use in order to have better results for our planet.
It is made from fossil fuels
Fossil fuels have a direct consequence on the greenhouse effect. Almost 80% of carbon dioxide emissions globally come from the use of fossil fuels.
Leaves a huge carbon footprint
The carbon footprint is the environmental impact that occurs as a result of the generation of greenhouse gas emissions and these emissions usually occur in three ways in plastic: at the time of its production, at the time of recycling the plastic and in Degradation.
Will still be here in hundreds of years
A plastic bag takes 150 years to degrade and a plastic bottle can take 1,000 years to disappear, all this plastic will just accumulate and stay here for hundreds of years.
Only a small percentage is recycled
Most plastic is not recycled and a large percentage ends up in our oceans, which is one of the leading causes of the death of 100,000 marine animals each year.
Causes hormonal disturbances and cancer
Research has suggested that all high-temperature or broken plastics release chemicals, and some of these chemicals cause hormonal disruption and cancer.
Pollutes our oceans
Eight million pieces of plastic pollution are deposited a day in the sea, this is equivalent to pouring a truck full of plastic per minute in the ocean. All that plastic stops in the depths of the ocean, staying there forever.
Kill marine animals and birds
As we mentioned earlier, that plastic usually reaches the habitat of animals causing their death because they swallow it, get stuck in them or suffocate them. In the same way with birds when they see plastic they do not know how to differentiate if it is plastic or food and they eat it damaging their stomach or organs.
Enter our food chain
The plastic we throw into the ocean is absorbed by marine species, remaining in their bodies and later reaches humans through food, "everything we throw back to us."
Water is wasted
For each plastic bottle for liter water, THREE liters of water are used in production. And that causes 70% of the water to go to waste.
